Our Pilot Farm
Our farm is almost 10 hectares on moderately steep land in the lowland selva biome in Valle del Cauca, Colombia. We are located at 1200m (about 24C average temperature) above sea level and recieve on average between 2500mm to 3000mm of rain annually. For the past 35 years this farm was mostly used to run beef cattle (5 ha) and a conventional coffee system of about 1.5 hectares. Cattle and conventional agriculture in the humid tropics are enormously destructive to the soil and when we arrived this farm was commercially unproductive and unviable. Using regenerative agroforestry techniques we are bringing the land back into commercial production as well as, and equally as important, returning the degraded landscape to a functioning forest ecosystem that supports thousands of native species of flora and fauna.
